Want to get a great laugh? Go visit the Recovery.gov website and look at the contracts they have issued.
The Department of Veterans Affairs in Brooklyn got $351,807 to replace and upgrade their dumbwaiter. Hold on! Shouldn't they just carry the stuff up and down the stairs in order to be in better physical condition?
The Department of Agriculture (DoA) is getting a whole bunch of this porkulus money. In Cleveland, they let a contract for $1,562,568 to buy mozzarella cheese. Now how in the world are they going to eat that much cheese before it goes bad?
The DoA also bought 760,000 pounds of ham at $1.50 per pound spending $1,191,000 to get it. Funny, they should have bought from my grocery store where 2 pound frozen hams are going at $0.87 per pound or on-line from Food Lion where it's only $0.79 per pound.
Again, the DoA in Plainview, Minnesota, got this bargain - Canned pork for only $16,784,272! Wow! Another winning proposition for someone. What in the world are they going to do with $16m worth of canned pork? I can't even eat canned pork because of the high salt content. Wonder who they are trying to give this to?
Here's a funny one. Agency 57 (wonder if they are part of some covert, alien spy agency?) at Dyess AFB is having a door at building 5112 repaired - not replaced but just repaired - and the contractor is doing it for only $1,444,100! Maybe they ought to start DIYing it and shop at Lowe's.
The Department of the Interior in Three Rivers, California, is spending $4,250 to rent a vehicle so the trail crew can run errands. How about picking me up a pizza and getting my dry cleaning while you are doing your errands?
And these examples are only for contracts! You should take a look at the Grants and Loans section for some really great ways to waste your money!
The website is http://www.recovery.gov/?q=content/investment-award to search by state, amount, or federal agency. Have fun seeings how the porkulus package is really being used.
