Stabschef Ernst Röhm was the popular head of the Sturmabteilung (SA) during the rise of the Nazi party in Germany. Eventually, he (and the SA) were no longer needed by the Party and were eliminated.

However, the strong arm tactics used by the SA allowed the Party to begin subduing the population. Some of these tactics were propaganda (to be sure) but use of brute force and intimidation. Members of this specialized group were certainly not the brightest bulb in the package nor were they members of the upper class. Kind of reminds me of many of the TSA (Transportation Security Agency) employees, don't you know?

The SA pushed around all those who were weaker than they were and always fell back on 'Party orders' when challenged. Usually, it was too late for anyone to do anything about the physical and mental damage. Seems like we are having a similar brutalization going on in the USA today.

Here are just a few of the negative press items I found in less than 5 minutes searching. And these have occurred between 15 February and 24 April 2012.
