Jail for Illinois woman who wore a T-shirt to a courtroom

What power a judge has!

Judge Helen Rozenberg of the 19th Judicial Circuit Court of Lake County, Illinois, presides over misdemeanor and traffic cases. But when she saw Jennifer LaPenta in court with a T-shirt the judge didn't like, Rozenberg became a little miffed. The judge called LaPenta from the gallery (she was there for her friend's court hearing) and proceeded to cite her for contempt of court. Rozenberg then sentenced LaPenta to 48 hours in jail and had bailiffs remove her from the courtroom in handcuffs.

Brutal? The Judge considered the T-shirt obscene. In her amended order, the judge sentenced LaPenta to two days in LCJ (Lake County Jail) with "no good time credit", meaning the full 48 hours must be served.

What did the T-shirt say that so offended the poor judge? It said, "I have the Pussy so I make the Rules." Pretty brutal.

Since LaPenta was not in court for herself, should the judge have simply ordered her out of the courtroom? Was 48 hours in jail fair?
