Bill of Rights being attacked again - in the US Senate

Warning! If you believe in the US Constitution and specifically the Bill of Rights and even more specifically, the 2nd Amendment, you should be following news on two items of interest currently being discussed in the Senate.

The Honorable Frank “Take Away Gun Rights” Lautenberg (Demoncrat from New Jersey, that hotbed of American liberties) has presented two separate bills in the Senate that will definitely raise your hackles.

The first one, Senate bill 1317, with the official title of “A bill to increase public safety by permitting the Attorney General to deny the transfer of firearms or the issuance of firearms and explosives licenses to known or suspected dangerous terrorists” seems to be reasonable at first glance. However, what it really means is that the US Attorney General, Eric “Why Does a Reasonable American Need to Have a Gun Anyway?” Holder, can deny due process rights and prevent Americans from purchasing a gun. How? The bill basically gives the AG free-rein to determine who can buy a gun and gives him great latitude on who will be put on the Terrorist Watch List.

Co-sponsors of this bill are Sen Feinstein, Dianne [CA], Sen Gillibrand, Kirsten E. [NY], Sen Levin, Carl [MI], Sen Lieberman, Joseph I. [CT], Sen Menendez, Robert [NJ], Sen Mikulski, Barbara A. [MD], Sen Reed, Jack [RI], Sen Schumer, Charles E. [NY], and Sen Whitehouse, Sheldon [RI]. See any NRA supporters there?

Read the Library of Congress page about this bill, S.1317.

The second bill, Senate bill 2820, is the beginning of a National Firearms Registry. Not that the bill states that but the intent of the sponsors is clear and has been publicly stated by all of them sometime in the past. The basis of the bill is:
“Amends the federal criminal code to require: (1) the retention for a minimum of 10 years of criminal background check records for known or suspected members of terrorist organizations who attempt to purchase firearms or apply for a state permit to possess, acquire, or carry firearms; and (2) the retention for at least 180 days of other criminal background check records relating to firearms purchases. Repeals certain provisions that require the destruction within 24 hours of identifying information for individuals who legally purchase or possess firearms.”

Co-sponsors of this bill are Sen Feinstein, Dianne [CA], Sen Levin, Carl [MI], Sen Lieberman, Joseph I. [CT], Sen Reed, Jack [RI], Sen Schumer, Charles E. [NY], and Sen Whitehouse, Sheldon [RI]. Again, no NRA supporters here either.

Of course, the hearing (Wednesday, May 5, 2010) will be an impartial discussion of the facts. YEAH, RIGHT! With anti-gun fascists testifying, there is no way that any reasonable discussions can be made. Want to know why? OK. Here are just a few of those testifying:
  • The Honorable Frank R. Lautenberg, U.S. Senate
  • The Honorable Peter T. King, U.S. House of Representatives
  • The Honorable Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor, City of New York
  • The Honorable Raymond W. Kelly, Police Commissioner, City of New York

We all know Lautenberg is anti-gun. King mentioned in his testimony that 1,100 legal purchases of weapons over the last six years were made by individuals on a terror watch list. So you realize how many names are on that list? Just around 500,000 names. Know why the purchases were allowed to go through? There was no reason to deny the purchase! How many of those 1,100 weapons were used in terrorist or criminal activities? NONE! Rep. King stated that "We cannot afford another incident like those in Fort Dix or Fort Hood, where individuals suspected of terrorist activity legally obtained weapons" but failed to mention that the individuals who committed those acts were NOT on a terrorist watch list! Yes, the FBI was investigating Hasan (Fort Hood) but nothing definitive had been determined.

Then there's the Bill of Rights anti-supporter Mayor Bloomberg who continues to say that 500 mayors of his bi-partisan coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns want to close the "terror gap" in our gun laws. He fails to mention that hundreds of mayors are on his list that have either never signed up or have opted out after learning the true agenda of this Demoncrat - outlaw guns in America.

Then, the poor lackey Police Commissioner Kelley has to support his boss, you know. Wow, he really goes over his resume in his testimony! Too bad crime has actually increased on his watch.

In summary, anti-gun politicians only want anti-gun legislation regardless of what civil liberties or Constitutional Rights are trampled in achieving their goals.

Don't believe me? OK. Read the testimonies yourself and let me know what you think. You can find the testimonies at the Senate.gov site.
